New Slide Show

Check out the new slideshow. All photos are courtesy of Jeffrey: age 4. He likes to use the digital camera when we aren't looking. Some of his pictures aren't half bad.

P.S. Slideshow is on the right. ;)

P.P.S. I know that the "new" show looks vaguely similar to the one that was already there, but I can't get Picasa to talk with Blogger as quickly as I'd like. I think they need to go to counseling so that they can share their feelings quicker. Check back soon, it should be working correctly before too awful long.

P.P.P.S. Ok so it was all fine and dandy in the time that it took me to write and post the last p.s thing. I guess I could have gone back and just deleted it and left the original post. But then you wouldn't have been able to see the inner workings of my mind. Enjoy!

Bravery!

No this is not a post about the bravery of one my three sons as they tried something new for the first time. It's a post about me! It's a post about the first of, I'm sure, many nights waiting up for my kids to get home from where ever they are.

The neighbors, who we love to death, had a halloween party put on by the wood mill where the husband works, and invited Jeffrey to go along. They have a little boy about his age so we let him go. Then, one of Austin's friends invited him to go over for dinner and watch a movie, so . . . a little nervously because it's the first time, we let him go. About five minutes later I yawned and wondered if my kids were too young for me to be waiting up for them to come home. Keep in mind it was only 8.

Anyway, I guess parenting is all about the "firsts". There are so many that we look forward to, and yet, so many that we wish would never come and some we hope don't come that do. So, to my first night of "waiting up" I say cheers. And here's to many more.

Turn off the faucet!!

So, I usually do pretty good about staying a couple steps ahead of the sicknesses that go around my house. But, this time something snuck ahead and ambushed the heck out of me. My head is all swimmy and light and my nose runs like a faucet! Literally! I am constantly wiping it and it hurts! I wish I could turn it off like you would the water faucet. But enough of the gross details. I need my sleep!

Under Construction

Another reason to be annoyed! :) If you are reading this, then you will most likely notice a few things that seem to be incomplete on the right hand side of the page. I am currently doing some construction, or re-construction, and have decided to go to bed without getting everything set just the way I want it. So, forgive me, and come back soon to see the changes. Or, don't if you don't want to. I promise they aren't really going to be that exciting. I just discovered some new blogspot features and have been playing with them. Anyway, I'm off to bed before Amber wakes up and wonders where the heck I am.

Annoyed?

I recently had an interestingly ironic thought. For those interested to know, no it wasn't the first thought that I've had, and no it didn't hurt. But, what it did do was cause me to reflect on the fact that we haven't made a post in almost two months. Now, this is where the irony comes in. If I were looking at someone's blog and they hadn't made a post in almost two months, I would be annoyed. So hopefully for the one or two of you out there that actually take the time to come visit, you aren't too annoyed by the fact that it's been almost two months since we've updated this thing, and hopefully you continue to check back occasionally.

It's been a busy two months. Austin started kindergarten and is loving every minute of it. Jeffrey started preschool and he too is loving every minute of it. Jakob has grown in to quite the teaser. (I wonder where he got that from?) He is a hoot and keeps us on our toes. He loves to climb, and will climb onto or into anything.

It's getting into the busy season for both of my jobs. UPS is starting to pick up with what will be another busy Peak Season. Radio Shack is gearing up for Christmas as well. We are getting new toys, for kids little and big, almost daily. Between the two I'm not home much during the day, but the boys sure love to gather at the window and watch me ride up in front of the house on my motorcycle each evening when I come home.

Well, since I can barely keep my eyes open I guess this will have to do for now. I hope you don't get too annoyed waiting for the next new post. Who knows when it will arrive.

Teaching Moments

So last week me and the kids stayed the night at my mom and dad's so I could get out of the house a bit and so the kids could have a different place to play. The night that we stayed the night I realized that I forgot the plug in for my laptop. I was hoping to get some work done there while the kids were sleeping. My sister agreed to meet me half way to bring it to me. Austin wanted to come with me and the other two were asleep and he asked where we were going. I told him aunt Krist was going to meet us half way to bring us something. "Half way?" He said. I said, Yep we are going 1/2 way home to meet her and then we are coming back. He said, "Five is 1/2 way." Being astonished I said, yep five is half way to 10 from zero. Then we we were turning to the main road and he said pointing to the speed limit sign, "See Mom, 45." So then we talked about how five was in the middle of the numbers like 45 being between 40 and 50. It was really cute. I was surprised that he caught onto the concept so easily.

So then when we got done talking about that he started playing with my phone and pushing the numbers in order 1-10. Then he decided to go further and he can count to 20 but for some reason has always had a hard time with the number 13 so we talked about that and then he wanted to go beyond the number 20. I explained to him that each time the numbers start over 0-9. With the teens you just put a number 1 in the front of it and once you get to 20, you just put a 2 in front of them. He really liked that because then he could go as far as he wanted to! My phone ran out of spaces to put the numbers :)

Oooohhh, then the next day. I had let Austin and Jeffrey ride their bikes to a park not to far away from my parents house while I drove behind them and then they played there for awhile. Well when we got back they were kind of bored so I called their cousins that live up the road not TOO far away. Well they needed to do some chores before they could come so I told the boys to go put their sandals on to get ready for them to come over. I went back into the house to get them a treat and went back outside to give it to them and they were gone. Sometimes they ride around the block so I waited for a minute. After they didn't show up I got into my car to see if they had ridden their bikes to the park we were just at (they have done that before). I don't really like them to do that because I can't see them very well from my mom's house. I can see the park but I can't really distinguish their little bodies from there. I couldn't find them anywhere. So the next place I looked is at my brother's house where their cousins live that were going to come over. Sure enough, there they were!!!!! The ride there is around 1/4 to 1/2 mile and they live on a busy street. It scared the living daylights out of me. My first reaction was to be so angry that they didn't ask and that they went all by themselves. Then I was sooooooo glad that they were safe. As soon as I drove into the driveway Austin came right outside and said, "Sorry Momma". Trying to compose myself I decided to say, "Put your bikes in the car, we are cleaning up at Grandma's, we are going home, and you can not play outside the rest of the day." They obeyed very well the rest of the day! Needless to say they didn't get to play with their cousins that day. I sat down and talked with them about why that was wrong and dangerous. Then when Dad came home we sat down as a family and talked about it again.

Come to find out while we were talking about it Austin told us there was a man there on the corner (I am sure an angel whether he was human or not) that helped them cross the busy street. They road on the busy street until there was a "turn" to go into the neighborhood and then they rode through the neighborhood the "back" way to their house. It made me feel better that they weren't on the busy street the whole time but thankful that Heavenly Father kept them safe.
